ATPN-S284 is a modified synthetic magnesium lithium silicate with pronounced platelet structure. When dispersed in water, ATPN-S284 forms a transparent, pourable liquid up to a concentration of 25% solids. In resin formulations, however, significant thixotropy and a high yield value can be incorporated.

Key Features and Recommended Use
Due to its excellent dispersibility, ATPN-S482 can be used as a powder additive in high-gloss and transparent waterborne products. The preparation of pumpable 20-25% pregels with ATPN-S482 is also possible. However, note that during the production of a (for example) 20% pregel, the initial viscosity may be high; thus, the material should be added slowly to water. After 1 hour, a 20% gel typically exhibits good flow properties.
ATPN-S482 enables the production of stable systems. Its thixotropic characteristics significantly improve application properties, including reduced sagging and the ability to apply thick coatings. Additionally, ATPN-S482 prevents settling of heavy pigments or fillers.
As a thixotropic anti-settling agent, ATPN-S482 can thicken and stabilize emulsion paints. The recommended dosage ranges from 0.5% to 4% (based on the total formulation).
Preparation & Handling Guidelines
- Suspension in deionized/soft water:
- Low-viscosity suspensions (up to 25% concentration) can be prepared under low shear.
- Stable handling viscosity for several hours.
- Hard water adjustment:
- Demineralization required (e.g., ion exchange, polyphosphates, Zeolite).
- Accelerated swelling methods:
- Heat (35-60°C), high-shear mixing, or electrolyte addition.
